BARELY 10 years in the Qatar market, yet Ammico has managed to include some of the largest, tallest and ‘first of their kind’ projects in Qatar to its growing project portfolio.

This is because the geotechnical specialist contracting company has extensive international experience and has established a reputation for speed and quality of work, technical skill and know-how of its staff and its ability to deliver work under demanding site conditions and tight schedules, according to a spokesman for the company
Established in Qatar in 2001, the ISO 9001:2008-certified firm specialises in foundation engineering and earthworks, with more than 40 years of international experience in this branch of civil contracting. The company designs and installs diaphragm walls, piled foundation, shoring of deep excavations, sheet piling, jet grouting, offshore piling, dewatering and ground improvements, as well as enabling works and piling works. It also executes rock cutting, filling, and roadworks.
“Over the past few years, we have undertaken several prestigious projects acquiring a reputation for delivering projects in time on budget without compromising on quality,” says Muhammed Imran Farooqi, Ammico’s contracts manager. “These include the piling works for Qatar Aluminium (Qatalum), the world’s largest aluminium plant, earthwork and civil works for Shell GTL project, the world’s largest gas-to-liquid plant, enabling works for Doha Convention Centre and Tower, which is expected to feature one of the tallest buildings in Qatar, as well as for the 106-storey Qatar National Bank headquarters and the 100-storey Al Quds Tower.”
Other projects include Woqod Tower; Energy City Qatar; The Gate development project; Doha International Airport expansion project; and a number of towers at The Pearl-Qatar project.
Ammico maintains a fleet of state-of-the-art foundation engineering and earthmoving equipment and invests heavily in purchasing new equipment and maintaining its existing fleet in good working order. Its fleet also includes diaphragm wall cutters, anchoring/micro-piling rigs, jet grouting and earthmoving equipment.
Farooqi comments: “Ammico offers innovative solutions for designing piling works, earth retention and dewatering systems as per project requirements. It uses the latest design and engineering software and its engineering, planning and project management staff is well-versed with modern software to design project documents and communicate with our clients. We use Prolog and Microsoft SharePoint, apart from other common engineering software for our projects.”
The company is also keen to collaborate with leading international consultants in addressing geotechnical challenges and has worked with Arup USA, Coffee and Company Associates Australia and MRCE USA.
Ammico also accords high priority to quality. “Quality is the core value of our business and we do not compromise on the quality of our works,” he says. “We have an in-house quality control system, and we deliver quality works in close coordination and supervision of labs and consult representatives to ensure the highest level of quality in all services we provide.”
Ammico is a safety-oriented company with a proven safety track for multimillion man-hours working on major projects in the oil and gas sector and various civil works projects, Farooqi confirms. Safety of its workers and property and protection of the environment is a key focus area and therefore it hires qualified health, safety and environment (HSE) personnel to fulfil its occupational HSE and social responsibilities.
“Our workers are trained in basic and emergency first-aid, fire-fighting, gas testing, working in confined spaces and at heights, as well as in emergency response and other training courses as per project requirements,” says Farooqi.
Ammico enjoys business relationships with clients such as CB&I, Vinci-Construction, Qatari Diar, Qatar National Bank, Energy City and a joint venture with Vinci and Diar. It has also worked with international project managers and consultants such as Turner, Hyder, KEO International, Arab Engineering Bureau and other well-known companies.
