ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions, a global provider of engineering, construction and service for industrial plants and systems, is set to build one of the largest cement plants in Saudi Arabia.

The engineering and construction arm of the Thyssenkrupp Group, won its largest ever cement contract from Yamama Saudi Cement Company, one of the kingdom’s biggest cement producers, to build two turnkey cement clinker production lines near Riyadh.

The two lines with an overall capacity of 20,000 tonnes per day of cement will be built at a new site around 80 km east of the capital.

Jens Michael Wegmann, CEO of the Industrial Solutions business department of ThyssenKrupp, said: “Our partnership with Yamama is built on a longstanding tradition and dates back to many decades. We are delighted that Yamama is once again putting its faith in our comprehensive experience in the turnkey construction of complete cement plants worldwide.

Thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions is delivering engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the lumpsum turnkey cement plant, including the supply of all the components for the new lines, from raw material preparation to clinker manufacture to cement loading, including quality control.

Both lines are scheduled to start operation in 2018.

Meanwhile, Thyssen-Krupp has appointed Boris van Thiel as the new CEO for the Mena (Middle East and North Africa) regional cluster.

Van Thiel, 41, was acting CEO for the company’s Mena regional cluster and, earlier, head of business development in the process technologies unit.
