SSH, a leading masterplanning, infrastructure, building design and project management firm in the Middle East, said it has been awarded the secondary infrastructure works by Bahraini developer Diyar Al Muharraq at its Assets 13A, 23B and 24, on the northeastern coast of Muharraq Island.

The scope of work includes design and supervision of roads, combined potable water network, sewer, storm water system, facilities for treated sewage effluent, electrical, streetlighting and telecommunications to the three assets spread over one million sq m within the Diyar Al Muharraq development in Bahrain.

Diyar Al Muharraq Island is a reclaimed area that is being planned as an eclectic mix of residential and commercial developments composed of residential villas, investment buildings, community retail centre, mosque and public open spaces.

Meanwhile, in Kuwait, SSH had earlier secured a major contract to provide study and design services for a new children’s hospital.

The project, to be implemented on a design-award-construct basis, will be located within the Al Sabah Speciality Medical Area in Al Shuwaikh. The deal was awarded by Kuwait’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Public Works in association with global architects HKS.

Kuwait’s newest children’s hospital will feature a total of 792 beds, split between secondary care, with 160 beds, and the allocated 632-bed tertiary care to suit all medical needs and modes of treatment.

The design concept will be delivered with a ‘Future Hospital Design’ theme in mind with an innovative and functional design incorporating state-of-the-art technology, energy conservation and the highest standard of construction, materials and equipment. The facility will include common diagnostic and treatment services to complement both secondary and tertiary care, along with other non-clinical support and common departments. Non-healthcare structures, functions and services are also part of the scope, inclusive of a minimum of 2,000 car-parking spaces, a helipad and a free-standing day care centre.
