Bahrain’s Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa launched a BD280-million ($738 million) power grid development project last month. The project, aimed at reducing short circuits and ensuring efficient transfer of electricity across the kingdom, will be completed by 2017-end, said a BNA report.

The scope of work includes the building of three 400 kV electricity transmission lines in Hidd, Um Al Hassam and Riffa and linking them. The project is being implemented by Germany’s Siemens. Prysmian Group of Italy, and a company from Japan are supplying the transmission lines. The Korean company Hyundai is supplying the transformers.
