Technology and expertise from some of the world’s leading firms has gone into the successful launch of the world’s first fully functional 3D printed office building, which opened in Dubai recently.

The ‘Office of the Future’ was constructed using a 3D printer measuring 20 ft high, 120 ft long and 40 ft wide, and built on the site of Emirates Towers. The building will house the temporary office of the Dubai Future Foundation, and was constructed using a special mixture of cement and a set of building materials designed and made in the UAE and the US.

Syska Hennessy Group provided its expertise to the setting up of the project in Dubai. The US-based company collaborated on the project with 3D printing technology firm WinSun Global and international architecture and engineering firms Gensler and Thornton Tomasetti, which provided systems engineering consulting services.

Siemens supplied smart technology to the 250-sq-m ‘Office of the Future’ to integrate the building management systems, access control and surveillance into a central building management platform.

Integrating key components of the ‘Office of the Future’ is a unique building management platform from Siemens, Desigo CC, enabling the control and optimisation of the building’s technical infrastructure, surveillance, air-conditioning, access control and safety technology from a single location.
