JW Marriott rises

The 300-key, five-star JW Marriott located adjacent to the east boundary of the convention centre is under construction under Package Four. It includes east and west wings, a central ‘drum’, wellness wing, and a car park zone. 

The hotel comprises a distinctive building with an architectural character that both takes advantage of, and harmonises with, the surrounding buildings and the local environment. 

Well over 50 per cent of work has been completed with the anticipated project completion date put at 2017-end. The main contractor is a joint venture between Murray & Roberts and Bahwan Contracting.

According to Said Al Qasmi, structural works and roof waterproofing is complete on the wellness wing, while false ceiling, painting, tiling, external façade finishes and MEP works are in progress.

On the east wing, following the completion of structural works, work is in progress include false ceiling, painting, tiling, external façade finishes including cladding, roof water proofing window fixing and MEP.

Structural works on the central drum are also complete, while block works, plastering and MEP works are in progress. Similarly, on the west wing, structural works are almost complete, and false ceiling, painting, tiling, and MEP works are under way.

Work also in progress on the structural steel work, blockwork and plastering in the ballroom area.
