KAEC appoints developer for school

King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), a special economic zone on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast, has awarded a SR49-million ($13.3 million) contract to IHCC, a design-and-build turnkey solution provider, to develop the third phase of the internationally accredited school The World Academy (TWA).

The new facilities will propel TWA to the forefront of education in Saudi Arabia, says the KAEC.

“The World Academy is a standout educational facility that places KAEC at the centre of human capital development for Vision 2030,” remarks Fahd Al Rasheed, the CEO and managing director of KAEC Group.

The new extensions will include additional classrooms to increase the student capacity of the school from 750 to 2,000 students by September 2017.  The new development will provide a wide array of innovative facilities to equip students with essential life skills for the future, including an entrepreneurship centre, a college for grades 9 to 12 and a robotics lab for the school’s design and technology centre.

Also there will be amphitheatres for large group events, marketplaces providing classrooms with a communal meeting place and an achievement centre to help students prepare for key examinations and aptitude tests.

An important feature is the widespread use of natural light which has been shown to enhance productivity and learning.

The interiors have been designed by Innocad, a renowned Austrian architect and designer headquartered in Graz.

Final phase of Msheireb Downtown Doha launched

A joint venture of Teyseer Contracting Company and Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) has been awarded a major contract by Qatar-based Msheireb Properties for the development of the fourth phase of Msheireb Downtown project in Doha.  

Announcing the contract for the final phase, the developer of Msherieb Downtown Doha said it will be spread over 132,000 sq m gross floor area.

Featuring the development’s tallest building, it will consist of a major public plaza and 11 mixed-use buildings, which include commercial offices, residential and retail space, five-star hotels, medical office building containing clinical and administrative spaces, and six car-parking basements.

This vibrant area will also offer residents and tenants access to Msheireb station, the largest Doha Metro station, which marks the junction of Qatar Rail’s three metro lines.

On the new contract, Ali Al Kuwari, the chief officer for design and delivery at Msheireb Properties, expresses delight at working with Teyseer Contracting Company and CCC.

“Their wealth of expertise, local knowledge, and commitment to Qatar’s 2030 vision provide us with the confidence that together we will deliver the highest quality of standards, and create an iconic project that enhances the city’s urban landscape,” he notes.

New refinery to supply low sulphur clean transportation fuel.

Punj Lloyd wins $48m Saudi refinery project

Punj Lloyd, an engineering and construction group in India, said it has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth Rs3.12 billion ($47 million) from Yanbu Aramco Sinopec Refining Company (Yasref) for its project in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.

The ‘Clean Fuels Interfacing Facilities Project’ has been awarded to the group’s subsidiary, Dayim Punj Lloyd. It aims to interface Yasref with the Aramco Yanbu Refinery to supply low sulphur clean transportation fuel - diesel and gasoline – for domestic distribution.

In addition, the pipeline system will also contain provision to transport Yasref refined products to the western regional pipeline hub, it stated.

Dayim Punj Lloyd’s scope of work includes construction of two new pipeline systems (30 inches x 7 km each); a dedicated custody metering system for each refined product; a new analyser to be installed inside Yanbu Refinery; a new Red/Green dye injection for gasoline to be installed in the Yanbu Refinery premises within the new line from Yasref to the refinery’s gasoline tanks and modification of three existing kerosene tanks in the refinery by installation of internal floating roofs in order to adequately receive Yasref gasoline.
