Aykon City ... a flagship Damac master development.

Damac Properties says it has completed the raft foundation work for tower B of Aykon City, its multi-tower master development on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, UAE.

Work on the foundation saw over 200,000 cu ft of concrete poured within a 24-hour period, the same amount required to fill 75 swimming pools, says Damac.

The 4-million-sq-ft Aykon City will offer residents the convenience of an entire city within its complex. Spread on the eastern and western sides of Sheikh Zayed Road at the Safa Park intersection, it consists of residences, serviced apartments, a hotel and an office space.

Niall Mc Loughlin, the senior vice-president of corporate communications and marketing, says the foundation work presented a complex challenge to the project management team, which minimised traffic delays during the setting process by turning the task around within 24 hours. The slab also required concrete to be poured in a temperature-controlled environment to ensure it was conducted to the correct standards, he states.

With the successful completion of the foundation, construction can now begin on the main columns ahead of the pouring for another slab which will make up the first basement level, adds Mc Loughlin.

Aykon City is one of Damac’s most ambitious UAE development projects.
