Dewa to award $3bn projects by 2021

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) is set to award contracts worth Dh11.4 billion ($3.1 billion) for the construction of 85 new 132/11-kV substations and six 400/132-kV substations over the next three years.

Dewa has already awarded the contract for the construction of electricity transmission projects, worth Dh1.05 billion ($285 million), including a 400/132-kV substation, two 132/11 kV substations, and 75 km of 132kV ground cables.

Dewa needs to investment Dh81 billion over the next five years to meet the growing demand for energy and all the needs of sustainable development in Dubai, stated managing director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.

 “In 2017, 21 400-kV substations were completed, with 1,150 km of ground cables. We aim to support and upgrade the capacity and efficiency of the transmission networks by providing a distinctive infrastructure and service facilities, to meet the sustainable development needs of Dubai, and provide electricity and water services according to the highest standards of availability, reliability and efficiency,” he added.

 According to him, there are currently 252 132/11-kV substations, with 16 inaugurated this year.
