DMCC, the world’s flagship Free Zone and a Government of Dubai authority, has announced that the construction of its Uptown Dubai development is proceeding at a steady pace with piling and raft work for the first supertall tower at the district already completed.

The last few months have seen more than 150 piles installed for the tower with another 140 put in place to support the first phase of a podium, which features a two-level central plaza, including world-class F&B (food and beverage) outlets, retail spaces and entertainment zones.

The raft foundation – comprising 2,500 tonnes of steel and over 12,000 cu m of concrete – was poured over a continuous 46-hour operation.

The supertall tower will boast luxury hotel rooms and suites, high-end restaurants, health spas, extensive conference facilities, grade A offices, and 237 uniquely-designed branded residences.

Announcing the progress, executive chairman Ahmed Bin Sulayem said: “DMCC is laser focused on delivering Uptown Dubai and the team has worked tirelessly to ensure that the critical foundations supporting the supertall tower were delivered on time and within budget.”

“As a premium mixed-use destination, Uptown Dubai will be a significant addition to Dubai’s iconic skyline and will transform the way people live, work and thrive in the area. Crucially, the project will also deliver thousands of jobs and, in turn, supply a significant boost to Dubai’s economy,” he added.

DMCC executive director (property) Paul Ashton pointed out that completing the foundation was a key milestone for the supertall tower.

“As the construction process rapidly moves forward, we will be announcing Uptown Dubai’s main contractor later this year,” he noted.

Earlier this year, DMCC had appointed Rockwell Group, a New York-based firm, as the interior designer for the supertall tower.

The Dubai developer has partnered with Accor Hotels to bring its luxury lifestyle hotel brand, SO/, to the tower – a first for the Middle East.
