The Expo 2020 Dubai masterplan ... Abanos gets key contract of Expo Village.

Abanos, one of the largest holistic interior fit-out and joinery companies in the UAE, said it has been awarded a key contract by Dubai World Trade Centre for interior fit-out and joinery work on Expo Village at the site of Expo 2020 Dubai.

The Expo Village project, which is to be delivered in two phases, consists of 11 plots, each with podium parking. It will be connected to Dubai Metro’s Red Line extension and designed within a building information modelling (BIM) framework to achieve Leed Gold certification.

Construction is under way and the project is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Dubbing the Expo Village project as a landmark contract in the company’s history, Abanos said under its $13.4-million contract, it would be using state-of-the-art joinery and fit-out products manufactured at its 21,000-sq-m facility for supply and installation of non-fire-rated and fire-rated doors, kitchen cabinets, and wardrobes for the Expo 2020 Village Project.

The project’s built-up area is 48,488 sq m spread across 11 plots, five parcels, three of which have been commissioned to Abanos.

On the big win, CEO Kamal Farah said: “We are thrilled to win this contract – the Expo Village project is a milestone in our company’s journey, a result of the hard work and dedication of every single member in our diverse, experienced team.”

“We are extremely glad to kick-off this partnership with DWTC and work with their team of highly-qualified and professional experts to complete the project on time and develop a fruitful relationship with the DWTC team,” he added.
