Pearl of Sharjah project launched

Sharjah’s Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) has joined hands with Emirates Nature-WWF, and the Emirates Marine Environmental Group (EMEG) to launch the Pearl of Sharjah development on Sir Bu Nair (SBN) Island, a three-year project aimed at preserving the island’s marine ecosystems and raising awareness about the environmental, cultural and heritage of the island.

On the project, EPAA chairperson Hana Saif Al Suwaidi said: “HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, declared Sir Bu Nair Island a protected nature reserve in 2000. Formerly a haven for pearl divers and fishermen, this island is of ecological, historical, cultural and political significance.”

 

Dewa, Fewa partner for water jobs

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) and Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) have partnered for strategic water interconnections between the two parties and the exchange of potable water in case of emergencies, or other purposes.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa, and Mohammed Mohammed Saleh, director general of Fewa. The MoU sets a practical framework for strengthening cooperation between the two entities to achieve common goals. It also includes joint efforts to develop, operate, and maintain strategic water interconnections. The two water systems will be directly linked in specific locations to allow for water transfer in case of emergencies.

 

Dulsco to partner for Expo 2020

Dulsco, an environmental organisation at the forefront of the UAE’s waste management sector, has signed up as the new official partner for Expo 2020 Dubai event and will help divert 85 per cent of its waste away from landfill.

This will be achieved by using the latest technologies to reduce, reuse, recycle and repurpose, contributing to the circular economy, where waste becomes a valuable resource for other activities, said Najeeb Mohammed Al Ali, the executive director, Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau, after inking the deal with Abdulaziz Mohammed Khan Abdullah, the chairman of Dulsco, to Expo 2020.

Dulsco’s purpose-built Waste2Resource (W2R) facility, located in Dubai South, will help to divert waste from landfill in the lead up to and during Expo 2020.

 

Sewa completes water network

The Sharjah Water and Electricity Authority (Sewa) has completed a new water supply network in the Hushi area of Sharjah, with a total length of 18,000 m in the first stage, a media report said.

The Hushi network provides potable water to 867 residential villas, reported state news agency Wam. The second phase has already started and a total of 17,000 m of main water lines are currently under construction, covering 727 residential villas. Sewa also completed a water line project between Mohadub and Al Sajaa Oasis which is 5,000 m long and has a diameter of 800 m.

Dr Rashid Al Leem, chairman of Sewa, said the new projects will contribute to strengthening the water transmission and distribution networks and improve their efficiency across Sharjah, as well as keeping pace with its urban expansion.

 

Tafawuq in WTC Abu Dhabi deal

Tafawuq Facility Management, a subsidiary of the UAE-based Eltizam Asset Management Group, announced that it has been awarded a significant facilities management services contract by the World Trade Center Abu Dhabi for a period of three years initially.

 A leading provider of integrated facilities management services, Tafawuq Facility Management, said  as per the deal it will provide cleaning, waste management and landscaping services among many other services for an initial period of three years.

 CEO Chris Roberts said: “Winning prestigious projects such as the World Trade Center Abu Dhabi reflects the success of our strategic roadmap for business growth and expansion in the region.”

 

Millennium hotel work to start

Dubai Investments has signed a partnership with Millennium Hotels & Resorts MEA to commence work on the Copthorne Creek Hotel, a 138-room hotel located in Al Hamriya, Dubai – their second hospitality real estate project together.

Under the deal, Copthorne Creek Hotel will be wholly owned by Dubai Investments Real Estate Company (DIRC) and managed by Millenium Hotels and Resorts MEA.

The deal was signed by Dubai Investments CEO Khalid Bin Kalban and Ali Hamad Lakhraim Alzaabi, president Millennium Hotels & Resorts.

The four-star hotel in Mirdif Hills offers 116 rooms and 128 serviced apartments as well as creative restaurant concepts, swimming pool, fitness area and meeting spaces.
