A rendition of the Uptown Tower ... a 78-storey building.

Belgian builder Besix has been awarded a contract by DMCC for the construction of the first super tall tower at its Uptown Dubai district in Dubai, UAE.

Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) is the world’s flagship free zone and Government of Dubai authority on commodities trade and enterprise, and master developer of Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT).

Named ‘Uptown Tower’, the 78-storey building provides breath-taking views of Dubai’s waterfront and iconic skyline.

Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, Uptown Tower replicates the brilliance of diamonds through its faceted glass façade that illuminates the interior with natural light while filtering out harsh glare. The interiors of the luxury hotel, F&B (food and beverage) outlets, and serene health spa designed by Rockwell Group, depict the district’s distinctive personality.

The project is being implemented through the Belgian infrastructure giant’s Dubai-based entity Belhasa Six Construct.

“Awarding Six Construct the contract to construct Uptown Tower is an important step in bringing the much-anticipated Uptown Dubai district to life. The quality on show from the bids received was incredibly high,” says Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the executive chairman, DMCC.

“This reflects the level of interest from the global marketplace to partner with DMCC, and be a part of an ambitious project that will add a new landmark to Dubai’s iconic skyline,” he states.

On the contract win, Olivier Crasson, the general manager, Besix Contracting Middle East, says it is a significant moment for Six Construct given that DMCC’s Uptown Dubai district is one of the most exciting projects in the region.

“We look forward to working alongside DMCC to deliver to Dubai  a truly unique and inspiring new destination,” he adds.
