Saudi Arabia’s Water and Electricity Company (WEC) has invited bids from leading consultancy firms for the provision of advisory services linked to three independent sewage treatment plant (ISTP) projects with a total capacity of 615,000 cu m per day.

The RFPs (request for proposals) for advisory services have been issued by WEC for Batch 2 of the ISTPs which will come up in Madinah region along the Red Sea coast; Buraidah, the capital of Al Qassim in north-central Saudi Arabia; and Tabuk region in the northwest of the country. The projects are Madinah-3 ISTP that boasts a capacity of 375,000 cu m per day; Buraydah-2 ISTP  with a 150,000 cu m per day; and Tabuk-2 ISTP with 90,000 cu m per day.

Meanwhile, WEC has received 15 statements of qualifications (SoQs) from top developers or developer consortiums for setting up an ISTP near the Taif city in the Makkah Province. On completion, it will boast a total ultimate treatment capacity of up to 270,000 cu m per day, it stated.

Under a 25-year sewage treatment agreement with WEC, the project company to be incorporated to develop the project will treat the entire sewage capacity supplied by the Saudi utility firm. WS Atkins & Partners Overseas Engineering Consultants is the technical advisor on the  project.
