Interserve-Oman JV wins key Duqm refinery project contracts

Douglas OHI, a joint venture between Interserve, an international support services, construction and equipment services group, and Oman Holdings International Company, has won two new civil work contracts for the new Duqm Oil Refinery project in Oman.

The £32.2-million ($42.1 million) contract was awarded to Douglas OHI by a joint venture of Técnicas Reunidas Daewoo (TRD) for delivering the process units at the new Duqm refinery.

The scope of work includes the civil and underground piping to support the installation of equipment, piperacks and specialist structures and networks across packages One and Two.

Douglas OHI has also been awarded a $92.2-million contract by TRD to deliver the building integration work on the site. The scope of the contract includes the construction and co-ordination of 23 buildings with a total area of 18,328 sq m.

Duqm Oil Refinery is a major new greenfield project within the Special Economic Zone of Duqm with the capacity to process around 230,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

On the big win, Douglas OHI general manager Aaron Hennessy says: “We are proud to be associated with and play a leading role in the delivery of the new refinery.”

“This project will expand our portfolio of supporting international EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractors in delivering industrial projects throughout Oman.”

“The award demonstrates TRD’s confidence in our ability to deliver the build programme through our technical capabilities and experience in the industry,” notes the top official.

 

ABB Industries secures Dubai Investments Park substation contract

Dubai Investments Park, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dubai Investments and an integrated, commercial, industrial, and residential community, has signed a $86-million contract with ABB Industries to commission a new 132/11-kV substation within the development.

The 132/11-kV substation for Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) is the seventh such operational facility in total across DIP 1 and 2. Located in the heart of DIP 1, it will be energised this July.

The contract, signed by DIP general manager Omar Al Mesmar and Dr Mostafa Al Guezeri, managing director UAE, Gulf and Near East for ABB Industries, covers supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the 132/11-kV substation.

On the deal, Al Mesmar says: “This new substation will help us meet the demands of the businesses located in Dubai Investments Park. All sectors will be served from this substation and it will ensure the growth of logistics, residential, commercial and industrial sectors within DIP.”

“The substation shows our commitment to the many businesses in a wide variety of sectors who choose to make Dubai Investments Park their home,” he states.

Elsewedy Electric unit wins Egypt port substation deal

Elsewedy Electric, a leading provider of integrated energy solutions in the Middle East and Africa (MEA), has announced that one of its subsidiaries has signed a contract to build an industrial district substation at Port Said in Egypt, at the northern end of the Suez Canal, on the Mediterranean Sea.

 Elsewedy Electric for Trading andDistribution says the turnkey agreement is on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis with a total value of E£550 million ($32 milllion).

 The EPC contract will be implemented over a 10-month period commencing from the date of delivery of the land.

 

Saudi-led consortium wins $1.2bn Bulgaria pipeline tender

Saudi Arabia’s Arkad Engineering says its consortium with Italy-based Arkad ABB, a joint venture between Switzerland-based technology major ABB has won a €1.1-billion ($1.23 billion) tender to build a pipeline that will carry Russian natural gas across Bulgaria.

The tender was awarded by Bulgarian network operator Bulgartransgaz to the Saudi-led consortium as they had offered the lowest bid.

The scope of work includes the supply of necessary materials and equipment, investment design, detailed design phase, and construction and commissioning of the project, says the Bulgarian company.

According to Bulgartransgaz, the project involves the expansion of the gas transmission infrastructure of Bulgartransgaz EAD in parallel with the north (main) gas pipeline to the Bulgarian-Serbian border.
