RepTile ... oozing appeal.

Kale Ceramics, Turkey’s leading ceramics specialist, is currently promoting an innovative collection of ceramic tiles inspired by snake and crocodile skins, for exclusive residential and commercial addresses.

Created by Can Yalman, the talented designer who has given a radically modern interpretation to snake and crocodile skin, the RepTile Collection can be used for a range of creative applications within bathrooms, living rooms and other interiors.
“Rather than being a little noticed surfacing material, the ceramic tiles in the RepTile series are more like individual designer items, decorative enough to deserve being on individual display,” says a spokesman for the company.
He adds: “Available in a range of dramatic colours, floors and walls lined with RepTile ceramics are aesthetically appealing and ooze sensual appeal. The designer has given free reign to his imagination resulting in an aesthetic combination of ceramic tiles ranging from bold and solid colours to bright pastels with the distinctive appearance of the textured skin of crocodiles and snakes.
This one-of-a-kind RepTile collection is currently available in the two series of snake and crocodile-inspired shapes. The irregularly sized rectangular tiles of the crocodile series can be arranged at will to create a perfectly fitted surface with regular edges, while creating the impression of a flowing, organic form. The tiles are sensually shaped in a concave form with a pleasing symmetry while still have the complex intertwined irregularity of a natural snake or crocodile skin.
The snake series tiles are shaped in interlocking, diamond-like scales, to give the effect of a natural but dramatic skin texture of an actual snake. The shining surface is split from an elevated central ridge, highlighting an aggressive, arrowhead form. The tile platelets are bonded together to give an impression of the unified texture of snakeskin, which is smooth, strong and visually appealing.
The RepTile collection has won a number of awards that include the Elle Decor International Design awards (EDIDA), the “Wall Covering” award and the “ETMK Winners with Design” award from ETMK (Industrial Designers’ Society of Turkey) as well as the prestigious “Design Distinction” award presented by the ID Annual Design Review among others.
“The Kale Group’s brands in the ceramic sector such as the Çanakkale Seramik, Kalebodur and the Kalevit ranges of sanitary ware, bathroom cabinets and acrylic bathtubs are fast developing into global brands in select markets,” adds the spokesman. The company’s portfolio also includes a variety of wall and floor ceramic tiles, decor and accessory pieces, porcelain tiles, Kalestone pool tiles and accessories, clinker anti-acid tiles and facade construction systems and the Carena range, which is a collection of Turkey’s authentic natural marble, travertine and stones formed into collections of mosaics, tiles and decorations.
Established in Turkey in 1957 with the opening of its first ceramic tile factory, the Kale Group currently holds a key position in the world’s building industries business, with 25 affiliate companies, each a leader in its own. In its 50th year, Kale Group continues to be a leader in the ceramic sector. The company has spread out into different geographies as well with the opening of a ceramic adhesives factory in Russia. The group currently has five operating showrooms around the world, which includes a showroom in Dubai, set up to promote the group’s Çanakkale Seramik, Kalebodur, Carena and Kalevit market leading tile brands in the UAE. The new showroom, which will offer its latest range of products to its clients in Dubai, marks one of the most important overseas investments of the Kale Group, says the spokesman.
Bahadir Kayan, general manager of Kale Eksport, the export arm of the group, described Dubai as a reference point for producers within the entire Middle East region. “With the acceleration in the construction sector expected to continue in the next five years, this investment is very important as it will enable us to assess the potential of the region and boost the increasing volume of trade between the two countries,” he says.
Jumeirah Beach Residence, Business Bay, Arabian Ranches Al Reem, Al Saheel and its extension and Gazella Townhouses and Dubai Marina towers are some of the important projects that Kale Group has implemented in the UAE. The Kale Group, which continues to add 400 new products each year to its portfolio of 4,000 varieties of ceramics, natural stones and sanitary ware products, has set an export target of over $100 million for the worldwide market. With on-going investments, the group has enhanced capacity to reach 62 million sq m annually. It currently exports nearly four per cent of its production of coating materials in 65 countries spread across five continents.
