India has started work on the world’s biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat state, a report said.
When complete the $100-milion stadium will hold 110,000 spectators. It will be home to the Gujarat Lions cricket team.
The venue would also house 76 corporate boxes, four dressing rooms, a clubhouse and an Olympic-size swimming pool, as well as practice grounds and a cricket academy, a Global Construction Review report said.
Currently Australia's Melbourne Cricket Ground is the biggest cricket stadium with a capacity of 100,000 people.
When complete in two years’ time, the stadium will be the second largest in the world, behind the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium of the North Korean national football team in Pyongyang, which holds 114,000.
