Bids sought for $9bn Melbourne highway project

The Government of Victoria in Australia has sought bids from construction companies for the A$9 billion ($6.5 billion) primary package, which involves construction of two tunnels.

Contractors are also being invited to apply to deliver the A$200 million ($144 million) early-works package, reported The Construction Index.

Construction for North East Link is expected to start in 2020 after the environmental and planning approvals are in place, it stated.

The work on the Link is aimed at building the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network and increase the capacity of the Eastern Freeway, it added.

Expressions of interest have also been invited for a primary tunnelling package for the North East Link in Melbourne, said a report.
