Peikko Group, a leading supplier of slim floor structures and connection technology for precast and cast-in-situ applications, said its UAE subsidiary has won a major supply contract for the Sun Island residential project in Sharjah.

The 268-villa unit development, Sun Island Housing, is a part of Sharjah Waterfront City, the northern emirate's ambitious project, which will come up over eight islands along 36 km of waterfront, covering an area of over 18 million sq m.

The Sun Island is being developed by Sharjah Oasis Real Estate Development, and the structural design of the villas is made by Naga Architects. The main contractor of the project is Tech-Construction, and the precast elements are being supplied by Abu Dhabi Precast.

As per the deal, Peikko Gulf will supply 5.5 km of Deltabeam composite beams and a significant amount of HPM anchor bolts to the Sun Island housing project. Peikko’s deliveries for the project are ongoing and will continue until 2019. The project is estimated to be finished by 2021.

"If this project was made with precast beams, support beams would have been needed. The design requirements of this project were for a slim floor structure, so we had to use out-of-the-box engineering approaches to solve the structural demands without impacting the design," explained Hazan from Naga Architects.

"Our choice was the Finnish innovative technology of Peikko, the Deltabeam Slim Floor Structure, to provide support to the cantilevered elements of the villas. This enhances the aesthetical appearance by avoiding the use of any drop-down beams and thus enabling full-height windows or curtain walls,"
he stated.

Topi Paananen, the chief executive of Peikko Group Corporation, said: "Our Deltabeam is a flexible and versatile solution that combines perfectly the speed of installation with architecturally demanding shapes and slim floors."

"It enables slender and light structural solutions that provide savings in terms of volume and costs. Its composite action between steel and concrete allows for creative structures with large open spaces," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
