Master developer Nakheel has awarded a contract worth Dh35 million ($9.5 million) to Dubai-based GBH International Contracting for the construction of a sports, health and leisure hub at the Jumeirah Park community.

The new leisure hub, which has a built up area of 93,000 sq ft, will boast an Olympic-size swimming pool, one of Dubai’s biggest gyms, a clubhouse, spa and medical centre, said a statement from Nakheel.

The new facility will combine first-class sports facilities with a range of restaurants, cafes, shops and services to create a health and wellbeing-focussed attraction at the high-end community, There will also be parking for nearly 100 vehicles at the new destination coming up within Jumeirah Park, it stated.

One of Nakheel’s most popular communities, Jumeirah Park currently has nearly 21,000 residents. Spanning more than 380 hectares, the development is home to 3,000 luxurious villas, verdant parks and communal green spaces, a school and Jumeirah Park Pavilion, Nakheel’s first neighbourhood retail centre, which opened in 2014.

It will also have a range of children’s facilities, including a nursery and kids’ pool. Retail amenities will include a supermarket, medical clinic, beauty outlets and everyday convenience stores across 46,000 sq ft of leasable space.  

As per the deal, GBH International Contracting will be start the construction work from next month.

On completion, Nakheel said the Clubhouse - home of the pool, restaurant, gym and spa elements of the complex - is set to become the largest of its growing collection of community clubs across Dubai, complementing existing and upcoming clubs at Jumeirah Islands, Jebel Ali Village, Al Furjan, Warsan Village and Jumeirah Village Circle.-TradeArabia News Service
