Knauf Middle East, one of the leading producers of building materials, said its managing director Amer Bin Ahmed based in Dubai, has been inducted into ASTM International board of directors for a three-year period.

A subsidiary partner of the multinational construction company Knauf, based in Germany, the group  aims to promote sustainability and energy conservation in the construction industry in addition to manufacturing building materials and related products.

ASTM International, formerly known as American Society for Testing and Materials, is an international standards organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems, and services.

Committed to serving global societal needs, ASTM International positively impacts public health and safety, consumer confidence, and overall quality of life, said the US-based firm.

ASTM’s board of directors is made up of 25 leaders from an array of companies, associations, and government bodies worldwide. Several members are based outside the US.

Bin Ahmed became a member of ASTM International in July last year.

An industry veteran, Bin Ahmed has nearly 20 years’ experience in the gypsum industry and has led business development in the Middle East and Asia for building products companies such as Boral and Lafarge. He joined Knauf Middle East in 2010.

Bin Ahmed is responsible for building a large-scale sustainable business operation for Knauf in the Middle East and India.

In his tenure at Knauf, Bin Ahmed’s commitment to standards has been recognized with a number of awards, said the statement from the construction group.

He received a CEO of the Year Award from the Future Cities media group in 2016 and also one of the most coveted awards for Middle East which is The ‘Made in UAE award’ in 2018 for Knauf, along with these there have been numerous recognitions from the Dubai Civil Defense and the Dubai Municipality.

He has also been recently elected as a board member of Dubai Quality Group, a government organization for a tenure of three years during which he would be working with a strong team to make sure the Quality Standards in UAE are not only maintained but also taken higher up.

Through his commitment to sustainability on behalf of Knauf and the UAE, Knauf was also honored with the Green Award by the Ministry of Infrastructure in 2018.-TradeArabia News Service
