Jumeirah Group, a global hotel company and a member of Dubai Holding, is expanding its portfolio in the UAE with the opening of a luxury desert resort in Abu Dhabi.

Jumeirah Al Wathba Desert Resort & Spa draws inspiration from a historic desert village while meandering luscious courtyards and walkways allow for a sense of discovery. Water features and pools inspired by the natural falaj (water channel for irrigation) create a soothing energy, underlined by the constant sound of water.

The quintessential Arabian-style property sprawls over 22,000-sq-m of tranquil desert and comprises a destination Spa, villas with private pools, Arabian-style rooms, a 1000-sq-m pool, six restaurants and bars including Al Mabeet, a desert dining experience which captures the spirit of the past.

Adventure seekers can enjoy fat biking through the dunes, desert treks, falcon shows every evening, archery and destination dining experiences.

“This is the ideal hideaway for couples and families seeking a tranquil escape,” said Axel Jarosch, general manager, Jumeirah Al Wathba Desert Resort & Spa.

“Embedded deep into the breathtaking backdrop of panoramic desert views, the resort offers a welcoming and alluring experience, resulting in a relaxing and invigorating escape. The resort is designed to draw people together yet provide the freedom to be lost.”

The resort’s spacious pool stretches out into the desert and expands into secluded inlets and coves, including a pool bar with in-water seating. The destination Talise Spa offers a sensory experience with 13 luxury treatment rooms and private terraces. Rejuvenation journeys include Turkish Hammams, snow caves, hot and cold plunge pools and crystal salt and cryotherapy rooms. There is also a dedicated yoga platform for those who wish to find their desert spirit.

Cuisine draws inspiration from Arabian flavours and rustic tastes of Italy and the Mediterranean. Romantic poolside dining can be enjoyed at Panache or at the remote desert camp Al Mabeet, inspired by Bedouin traditions and the legends of Arabia. Witness breathtaking sunsets from the rooftop bar as the glowing sun descends on the desert dunes.

Guests can discover a hive of gentle activity around the traditional courtyards and intimate spaces around the village square, bordered by the Resort’s restaurants and souk. Additional amenities include a kids’ club, conference and meeting facilities.

Just 40-minutes from Abu Dhabi downtown and 90-minutes from Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, the Resort is remote enough to provide escapism yet ideal for exploring. Discover the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (30 mins drive); Ferrari World, Yas Island (40 mins); the Louvre, Sa’adiyat Island (50 mins) and the garden city Al Ain (90 mins), a Unesco World Heritage site.

José Silva, chief executive officer, Jumeirah Group, said: “It’s important for us to have a portfolio in the UAE’s capital Abu Dhabi that reflects the true essence of the destination. The resort joins two existing hotels - Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort and Jumeirah at Etihad Towers - both in prime locations. The Resort combines Arabian charm, architecture and generous hospitality and promises a luxurious experience amidst a panoramic backdrop. We look forward to welcoming guests to the fascinating emirate of Abu Dhabi.”

Al Wathba’s historical location and Emirati resonance is home to the Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival, an important cultural event. The two-month festival, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, gives visitors a glimpse into Emirati traditions. The resort’s proximity to the Emirates International Endurance Village provides the ideal sanctuary for visiting the annual UAE Endurance World Cup, the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve, cycling tracks and fossilized dunes.

The opening offer includes 20 per cent off Best Available Rate, 20 per cent off F&B and Spa. Best Available Rate starts from Dh1,400 ($381.1) Bed and Breakfast. - TradeArabia News Service
