Steady progress is being made on the work related to the revamping of secondary sanitary water pumping stations and is expected to be completed next month.

The BD1.03-million ($2.71 million) project will see the upgradation of more than 37 pumping stations across the kingdom, said a statement from the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.

The move is aimed at boosting the efficiency of sanitary networks and to reduce damages. The chosen stations are located in different areas: seven in Muharraq, 20 in Manama, Jidhafs and Al Budaiya, seven stations in Sitra, Al-Eker and Alba, and three in Tubli and Riffa, it stated.

Engineer Asma Jassim Murad, the sanitary engineering assistant undersecretary at the ministry, the project will help maintain the stations and improve their efficiency and also ensure their longevity.

In addition to this, the project aims to curb malfunctions and thereby reduce floods that the areas with these stations sometimes experience, she noted.

"A total of 37 sanitary water pumping stations were chosen for revamping and upgrading the electrical and mechanical equipment. As per this project, these stations were provided with new pumps, inner pipes, structures, electrical control panels and sensors. Some stations also had minor civil works done to them," she added.-TradeArabia News Service
