Sharjah government has announced the opening of its new 89-km-long Khor Fakkan Road, built at  a cost of Dh6 billion ($1.6 billion), which will help reduce the travel time between the two cities to just 45 minutes, reported state news agency Wam.
 
The new road was dedicated to the public by HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and HH Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, in the presence of Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
 
The project marks a new phase in the development of the infrastructure and tourist facilities in the East Coast city, it added.
