Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah) has issued requests for proposal (RfPs) for the operation, management, and maintenance of Phase One of its BD3-million ($8 million) beachfront development Bilaj Al Jazayer.

To be implemented in two phases, Bilaj Aljazayer will offer high quality public beaches with pedestrian walkways and a leisure outlet for retail and F&B (Food and beverages) units.

Phase One comprises improvements to 1 km of unrestricted vacant beachfront to be later enhanced by a landscape promenade, food and beverages and supporting beach amenities.

It will serve as a prime destination for leisure and entertainment which will be open to both tourists and locals alike, said a statement from Edamah, the property arm of the kingdom's sovereign wealth fund.

Phase Two of the project will include building a four-star hotel situated on Bahrain's southwestern coast to serve the visitors who wish to spend more time at a seaside resort.

The scope of work includes providing beach-related services and activities, and handling the supervision and maintenance of cleaning and security services, said the statement from Edamah.

Bilaj Al Jazayer's existing beach is being developed into a world class beach-front destination aimed at catering to Bahraini families, GCC nationals, and tourists, it stated. The site is around 3 km long located approximately 5 km southwest of the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC). The total site covers an approximate area of 1.3 million sq m and comprises of a public beach and 309 leased chalets.
