Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer) has opened a new control centre that will act as a central point for controlling and monitoring the performance of private environmental service providers tasked with the collection and transportation of waste in the emirate, as well as to electronically track waste transport vehicles.

As part of its mandate to monitor the collection and transportation of waste to enhance the overall efficiency of the environmental service providers in the emirate, the Control Center tracks vehicles used in the collection and transportation of household waste, farm waste and bulky waste, as well as the washing and sterilizing of waste bins and street sweeping equipment.

Furthermore, based on these assessments, it issues reports on the contractors’ performance, said the statement from Tadweer.

The new centre also oversees recycling facilities and issues environmental licenses to entities active in the waste management sector in Abu Dhabi.

Tadweer said it plays an important role in creating a sustainable environment, and preserving the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of Abu Dhabi.

It provides 51 services, including 27 services related to cleaning, collection and transportation of waste as well as sweeping of roads and residential, commercial and industrial areas in the emirate, said the statement.

"The opening of the new Control Center aligns with the directive of the Abu Dhabi government to leverage the latest technologies to provide high-quality services to the community," remarked Mubarak Obaid Al Dhaheri, the undersecretary at the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities, after its inauguration.

He was joined by Dr Salem Al Kaabi, General Manager of Tadweer, as well as several senior officials from Tadweer at the launch event.

"Technology integration is key to the development of the waste management sector in the emirate and to achieving its strategic plan. Through using a fail-safe system that combines control and monitoring functions, this important facility seeks to improve our operating mechanisms and enhance our preparedness to address any challenges facing this vital field," he noted.

Dr Al Kaabi said the new control centre reflects Tadweer’s commitment to the continuous improvement of the waste management sector in Abu Dhabi.

"Through ensuring the compliance of environmental service providers with contractual terms and guidelines, the center aims to boost their efficiency and responsiveness while supporting the efforts of Abu Dhabi to achieve its sustainable development goals," he noted.

Tadweer uses state-of-the-art vehicles fitted with the latest equipment and systems to provide updated data on the location, weight, quantity and type of waste bins, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
