The Marina bathtub from Planit and the Flight washbasin by Goman ... DuPont collections.

Innovative bathroom and wellness collections created by leading companies and designers using DuPont Corian’s high-tech surfacing material were recently unveiled at a series of exhibitions in Italy at the end of last year.

DuPont Corian high-tech surface is a preferred material for bringing beauty and functionality to bathroom and wellness environments, says the company, and has been used by leading companies and designers such as Goman, MomaDesign, Planit, Rubinetterie 3M, Rexa and Makro.

“DuPont Corian combines aesthetics with high performance: its inherent hygienic properties, its seamless, homogenous look and solid feel make it the ideal choice for the creation of distinctive bathroom and wellness solutions, more and more defined by durability, beauty and elegance,” says a spokesman for the company.

Goman presented the “Flight” washbasin made from a single piece of moulded translucent DuPont Corian that expresses lightness and transparency. Flight represents a beacon in bathroom design for differently-abled people. The washbasin is a design by Massimo and Francesco Rodighiero.

MomaDesign launched the exclusive Dimasi bathroom collection, which is inspired by the home spa and wellness world. It features the new multi-function and sensory Hammam, which is customisable and equipped with multi-function shower heads that include horizontal shower options and chromotherapy; and the Freeflow bathtub, which recreates the spring water effect found in spas.

“Originality, performance and innovation combine together to create elements which are perfectly integrated in a high quality solution,” the spokesman says.

Planit presented an elegant series of bathroom furniture characterised by purity of style and enriched with fine decorative elements made entirely with DuPont Corian techno-surface.

The series includes the Teatro washbasin – designed by Luca Scacchetti – which is marked by a series of inclined sections with diagonal and asymmetric lines that dramatically converge toward the centre in a theatrical display. The geometric sink and tray provide a clean look and feel, he says.

Another innovation from Planit is the Wing washbasin, which draws upon nature, reflecting the gentle lines of a leaf covered in dew. Whether top mounted or wall hung, its organic form effortlessly integrates into any possible furniture combination, the spokesman adds.

Also from Planit are the Alibaba bathtub, designed by Itamar Harari, which is a liberal interpretation of the classic chaise lounge that perfectly combines design and functionality; the Marina bathtub, which features a circular shape that characterises harmony and embodies the natural beauty of nature; and the Alba shower tray, with minimalist lines.

Rubinetterie 3M showcased the Light series, a shower head in DuPont Corian techno-surface, with a minimalist and elegant design. The shower head is available both with and without illumination and was awarded the 2011 Design Plus prize by Frankfurt ISH fair. It was designed by Danilo Fedeli.

Rexa presented its “Ergonomic” project that includes bathtub, washbasin, shelf and shower in DuPont Corian. True to its name, the range, which has been designed by Giulio Gianturco, focuses on ergonomics.

Rexa also offers the Fonte collection, which is inspired by the Japanese philosophy of personal care. Designed by Monica Graffeo, it includes washbasins, shower trays and bathtubs made in DuPont Corian, as well as elm wood and Corian receptacles that create attractive settings inspired by the countryside.

The Warp, also by Rexa, offers a plastic integration solution that blends architecture and furnishings. Here, DuPont Corian is moulded, curved and modelled to create all the elements of the bathroom, including the walls, with a harmonious continuity. DuPont Corian wall panelling extends three-dimensionally outwards, using the same material to create the bathtub, washbasins, shelves and shower tray, elements that literally “spring out” of the wall. The Warp has been designed by Carlo Dal Bianco.

Makro showcased Next, a floor-standing cabinet available in DuPont Corian that can be integrated with all undermount-bathtubs of the company’s collection.

Also from Makro is Shade, a customisable modular folding screen with panels in DuPont Corian or other materials and with different accessories.

Speaking about DuPont Corian, the spokesman says: “The continuous efforts, the investment and the creativity of DuPont in research and technology, product innovation, new applications development and marketing have made DuPont Corian high-tech surface a design tool offering exceptional versatility and almost limitless possibilities for producing high-quality, effective, functional and reliable solutions addressed to residential, public and commercial environments, both indoor and outdoor.

“From kitchens to lamps, from bathrooms to the skin of buildings, from seating solutions to home automation systems, from radiators to touch control surfaces, from tables to furnishing and fashion accessories – to mention just a few – the ‘magic’ of DuPont Corian can be found today in an extremely wide variety of products, systems and objects that everyone uses or experiences in daily life,” he adds.
