SAUDI ARABIA has embarked on an ambitious plan to build 11 giant sports stadiums across the kingdom each with a capacity of 45,000 spectators, said a report.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has ordered the construction of these world-class stadiums in the provinces of Madinah, Qassim, Eastern Province, Asir, Tabuk, Hail, Northern Border Province, Jazan, Najran, Baha and Al Jouf, reported the Arab News.

The Saudi king opened in May the mammoth King Abdullah Sports City constructed on a 3-million-sq-m area in Jeddah. The mega facility also includes a 60,000-capacity football stadium.
