The SCX1500A-3 hydraulic crawler ... coming to Abu Dhabi.

HITACHI Construction Machinery Middle East Corporation (HMEC) will be showcasing its 150-tonne capacity SCX1500A-3 hydraulic crawler crane at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (Adipec), which will be held from November 10 to 13 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

“The 150-tonne capacity model is suitable for a wide range of applications, including civil engineering, construction and material handling. It has a new design, based upon the manufacturer’s reputation for reliability,” says Piet van Bakergem, general manager of HMEC.

The SCX1500A-3 is equipped with a powerful new-generation Isuzu engine that complies with Stage IIIB emission regulations without compromising on efficiency. The sustainability of the machine is also enhanced by an auto idle stop function, which prevents fuel wastage, and reduces exhaust emissions and carbon dioxide, he says. The winch of the crane has a new environment-friendly design, which contributes to its economical operation.

Van Bakergem points out that the mobility of the new crawler crane has been enhanced in several ways. “The width of this model is now 2.99 m, which allows for easy and cost-efficient transportation. The swing cab design has been adapted to increase the boom foot width to ensure the crane’s reliable operation and excellent mobility. In addition, the assembly and disassembly time of the crane has been reduced by the use of a live mast, quick draw and self-removing counterweight,” he explains.

Also thanks to the new powerful winch design, the SCX1500A-3 can make light work of heavy lifting tasks on any job site. The 12-tonne-rated line pull winch benefits from enhanced line pull and braking
performance. Furthermore, the boom width has been enlarged to ensure a more reliable operation.

Safety is at the forefront of the design of the SCX1500A-3. Hitachi-Sumitomo engineers have incorporated a comprehensive range of features to enhance this aspect for operators, including an alarm warning system and auto-drum lock, and the installation of a swing limitation device and brake pedal, and folding handrails. The large display panel in the cab presents all of the crane’s necessary information at a glance in a functional, easy-to-view layout, without hindering the operator’s forward visibility, he concludes.
