Nakheel seeks West Beach Club bids

NAKHEEL, a leading real estate developer in Dubai, has invited bids to construct West Beach Club at Palm Jumeirah, Dubai.

West Beach Club, to be built on the 1.5 km beachside park, will be a high-end beach club facility featuring a shaded park and promenade, and 14 waterfront restaurants. In addition to a ground-plus-one-storey clubhouse, the contract encompasses the construction of food outlets, beachside pools, recreation deck, a gymnasium, landscaping and site infrastructure works. The bids are expected to be submitted this month.

West Club Beach is one of the several new residential, retail, tourism and entertainment projects by Nakheel at Palm Jumeirah, the others being Nakheel Mall, The Pointe, The Boardwalk, Palma Residences, Azure Residences, Club Vista Mare and Palm Views.

Nakheel has already signed design and engineering contracts with RSP Architects, Planners and Engineers for the West Beach project.

 

RTA awards internal roads contract

DUBAI’S Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a Dh118-million ($32.12 million) deal for the construction of internal roads in the UAE emirate.

The internal roads will be built at Al Mamzar and Al Nahda One under the contract, which is part of Phase Three of the Dh1-billion ($272 million) five-year plan (2012 to 2016) for constructing internal roads in several residential areas of the city, said the RTA.

“The new project involves the construction of single and dual carriageways, improvement of the existing roads network in those areas, designating areas for car parks and streamlining the existing ones, and transforming 10 new locations into parallel parking,” said Mattar Al Tayer, the chairman of the board of directors and executive director of the RTA.

According to him, the company undertaking the project will start construction works this month and will take about 18 months for completion.

Meanwhile, the RTA said it has completed works related to the elevated structures of all the 46 metro stations on both the Red and Green Lines in Dubai.

The work involved the construction of robust metal structures and concrete barriers for metro viaducts and elevated structures for the nearby bridges across the emirate.

 

Beam to develop school in Dubai

UAE-BASED Bukhatir Education Advancement and Management (Beam), an operator of creative science schools, broke ground for a new school project in Dubai.

The International School of Creative Science Nad Al Sheba will be a state-of-the-art K-13 learning institution offering the UK curriculum and located in the Nad Al Sheba area of Dubai. The campus is expected to open in September.

 

Louis Berger opens office in Dubai

LOUIS Berger, a global professional services corporation based in the US, opened a new office in Dubai, last month, further expanding its reach into the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.

“Louis Berger’s Dubai office will further enhance our ability to serve our local clients’ needs while expanding our greater geographic reach across the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region,” said Tom Topolski, executive vice president and managing director of the architectural and engineering design firm.

Etihad Rail signs up Stevin Rock

ETIHAD Rail, the developer and operator of the UAE’s national railway network, has announced a strategic partnership to offer logistics services to Stevin Rock, one of the world’s largest quarrying companies.

Under the terms of the partnership, Stevin Rock will be using the 1,200-km UAE rail network to distribute bulk commodities from its three quarries located in Kadra (Shawkah), Al Ghail and Khor Khuwair to Etihad Rail distribution terminals.

By 2020, rail will facilitate Stevin Rock in transporting an annual volume of more than 22 million tonnes of mined products and materials to real estate developers and construction companies in the region.

 

Corodex wins ‘green’ award

CORODEX Industries, part of Concorde-Corodex Group (CCG), one of the Middle East’s pioneering providers of water, wastewater treatment and environmental services, recently won the Manufacturer of the Year award in the air treatment category at the Climate Control Awards in Dubai.

The award was conferred in recognition of the company’s innovative installation of a biological odour control plant in the UAE. Corodex Industries designed an innovative bio-friendly technology of removing contaminants from air streams by means of sulphur-reducing bacteria and other types of bacteria.

 

UAE spends $1.76bn on projects

THE UAE has spent more than Dh6.5 billion ($1.76 billion) on 125 major infrastructure development projects including building of new roads, hospitals, dams and ports, said a report.

Of these projects about 50 per cent were linked to housing development schemes, reported the state news agency Wam. Till the end of October, the committee had implemented seven hospitals and dams, three mosques, four ports, three sewage projects, and three power and water projects, the report quoted Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi, the deputy minister of presidential affairs and chairman of the committee as saying.
