Leading Dubai developer Nakheel has awarded a Dh18.5-million ($5.03 million) contract to construct the new Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC) access points, which will improve traffic flow and reduce journey times at one of Dubai’s largest and fastest-growing communities.

The company has roped in the UAE-based DX Contracting and National Gulf Construction to jointly deliver the new roads.

With this move, JVC residents can look forward to easier access to the community via three new JVC/Hessa Street link roads that will open later this year, master developer Nakheel said.

Work will begin this month and is due for completion in the third quarter of 2016, said a company spokesman.

“Around 20,000 people currently live in JVC, but this rapidly-growing mixed-use development will accommodate some 300,000 people when complete,” he stated.

“The new road links will enhance JVC in both the short and long term by tackling the immediate needs of residents and addressing the future needs of the community as it expands,” he added.

According to him, Nakheel has delivered more than 700 villas at JVC, with over 265 buildings, villas and townhouses by third-party developers either complete or under construction.

JVC, he stated, also features 33 landscaped parks, spanning more than 4 million sq ft in total.

A further 239 residential, commercial and hospitality buildings by sub-developers are currently in the design stage.

JVC will also be home to The Circle Mall, Nakheel’s new shopping, dining and entertainment hub, with 235 shops, cafes and restaurants and a multi-screen cinema. Construction will begin this year, he added.
