Majid Al Futtaim plans to start construction work next year on two new landmark malls in Riyadh, namely the Mall of Saudi and City Centre Ishbiliyah.

“The construction package award and main contractor details haven’t yet been confirmed,” said Robert Welanetz, CEO at Majid Al Futtaim Properties. “Work will start work in 2017 and is expected to be completed by 2021.”

The malls will be developed at a cost of SR14 billion ($3.73 billion). The Mall of Saudi, the kingdom’s largest and first fully integrated lifestyle destination, will have a total land area of over 866,000 sq m and will include one of the world’s largest indoor snow parks. It will includes 300,000 sq m of shops, restaurants and entertainment areas, prime residential units, offices and showroom space, luxury hotels, serviced apartment buildings and other public amenities.

City Centre Ishbiliyah, Saudi Arabia’s first City Centre mall, will cover over 100,000 sq m of gross leasable area and feature 250 stores, a 9,000-sq-m Carrefour hypermarket, a food-court and an entertainment complex inclusive of Magic Planet. The projects have been designed by CallisonRTKL, a leading global architecture and urban planning organisation in the US. The developer is currently finalising the masterplans for both Mall of Saudi and City Centre Ishbiliyah.
