Muscat Water completes desal plant

Muscat Water, a joint venture between Al Sulaimi Group Holding and AquaSwiss, has completed the construction of its 8,000-cu-m water desalination plant in Qurayat, Oman, a report said.

Muscat Water had won the contract to build, own and operate a temporary desalination plant in Qurayat and Asselah through Oman Power and Water Procurement Company, a member of Nama Group, through a tendering process in March 2016, the Times of Oman reported.

Muscat Water aims to produce potable water at competitive prices through unique differentiating technologies.

 

Sezad readies labour housing

Oman’s Special Economic Zone Authority (Sezad) said the permanent accommodation being built for the staff of contracting companies in the Duqm region at a cost of RO75 million ($194 million) will be ready in the first quarter, said a report.

A joint initiative with Renaissance Services, an integrated facilities management company based in Oman, the Duqm Permanent Accommodation for Contractors (PAC) project will include residences, an entertaining club, restaurant, medical clinics and retail outlets besides a mosque, reported the Oman Observer.

The fully developed complex will be maintained and operated by Renaissance and will be able to accommodate more than 16,000 employees, stated the report, citing company officials.

 

Work to start on road revamp

Bahrain authorities have started work on the revamp of Sheikh Abdulla Avenue, which extends from Sheikh Hamad Avenue to Bab Al Bahrain Avenue in the capital Manama.

The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning said the project is part of its comprehensive plan aiming to revamp roads and maintain traffic safety levels. The BD179,330 ($472,319) project was awarded to Bahrain Pipes Contracting.

 

Oman mall revamp complete

Majid Al Futtaim, a leading retail and leisure pioneer in the region, has announced the completion of its RO5-million ($13 million) redevelopment project work at City Centre Qurum in Oman.

A lifestyle shopping mall and community landmark welcoming close to four million visitors, City Centre Qurum boasts more than 80 stores including 14 dining outlets, totalling 23,200 sq m of retail space.

The redevelopment work, which began in April 2016, includes a 3,150-sq-m Centrepoint – the multi-brand retail concept of Landmark Group.

City Centre Qurum now has 26,500 sq m of retail, offering more than 13 diverse dining and café options, 91 retail destinations and distinct entertainment options. The expansion also includes 177 additional car-parking spaces.

 

Coastline road planned in Bahrain

French experts are working on a major road development plan along Manama’s coastline, it has been revealed.

The project includes routes linking Coral Bay and Avenues Bahrain Mall, a multi-million development along King Faisal Highway that will be opened later this year.

Infrastructure ready for Gateway

Bahrain-based Manara Developments Company said it had recently completed infrastructure works worth $66 million on Phase One of its ambitious Investment Gateway - Bahrain project.

The work involved construction of the main 66-kV power station the project and 29 substations in order to power the 600,000-sq-m Phase One in collaboration with the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), said Manara.

The Bahraini developer also made arrangements for the preparation and reclamation of the site besides developing the infrastructure of the project to include paving of the roads and pedestrian walkways, the erection of lamp-posts, in addition to the installation of substations to power approximately 394 plots in the Phase One.
