Laticrete thinset mortar holds on tight

October 2017

Laticrete has introduced two high performance and green products for installation of tiles, slabs and stone.

Of the two, 257 Titanium is a lightweight high-performance thinset mortar designed to function as the optimal choice for installing gauged porcelain tiles (GPTs) and gauged porcelain tile panels/slabs (GPTPs) in commercial, residential and industrial applications.

“Gauged porcelain tile panel installations can be challenging as the tile can be as large as 10 by 5 feet, and obtaining maximum thinset coverage is critical. Due to its exceptional wetting out properties, superior transfer and 60-minute open time, the mortar ensures maximum coverage and a high-strength bond that will not deteriorate over time,” says Laticrete senior product manager Jonathan Scott.

257 Titanium exceeds ANSI A118.15, the industry’s highest performance standard for a cementitious based adhesive mortar, providing worry-free interior, exterior or submerged installations. Additionally, the product utilises Laticrete Hydromatic Cure Chemistry, which accelerates the hydration process to rapidly consume water in the system, allowing the material to cure in a predictable manner.

257 Titanium is silica sand-free, which both reduces exposure to respirable silica and contributes to the easy-to-spread creamy consistency and ease of trowelling.

Laticrete has also introduced its new Latapoxy Biogreen 300, said to be the industry’s first high-strength, chemical-resistant epoxy adhesive made with biobased material for installing tile and stone. Designed to provide an alternative to conventional non-renewable petroleum-derived products, Latapoxy Biogreen 300 may contribute Leed V4 points and retains the same easy-to-trowel consistency of Latapoxy 300 adhesive, with the additional enhancement of a faster cure time.

“With sustainable construction increasingly becoming a standard practice, Latapoxy Biogreen 300 is providing dealers and installers with the first eco-friendly adhesive option in the expanding green products category,” says Scott. “It is another example of our commitment to developing advanced, forward-looking product formulations that result in both better products for our customers and a more sustainable world.”

Latapoxy Biogreen 300 exceeds both ANSI A118.3 and ISO 13007 R2 requirements for epoxy adhesives and can be used in interior and exterior areas such as walls and floors, wet and dry areas. “With a faster cure time, contractors gain increased productivity and time savings on the jobsite, with a faster time-to-grout and heavy traffic permitted in just 12 hours,” says Scott.

The adhesive can be used to install a variety of ceramic tile, marble and natural stone, and will bond to most sound, clean surfaces, spreads easily and can be cleaned with water while fresh.

Both 257 Titanium and Latapoxy Biogreen 300 are components of the Laticrete Lifetime System Warranty providing one source, one warranty from the substrate to the grout.

Sujit Singh, the managing director of Laticrete Middle East and Africa, says Laticrete adhesives and mortars ensure installations go faster, easier, and with predictable results, time after time.

“Our thinset adhesives and mortars feature unique wetting characteristics wherein the products are reinforced with special ingredients for unmatched non-sag performance, achieving longer open times, and are built with antimicrobial protection to inhibit the growth of stain-causing mold and mildew.”

He adds Laticrete products offer major advantages in terms of speed and productivity over the competition in any form of application, tile, stone, marble, glass, brick and even large and heavy tile installation solutions.
