Ajman Marina ... inspiring designs.

Work is due to start on site early next year on the Ajman Marina, a 26-hectare master-planned project located on the Ajman waterfront, 20 km from Dubai, according to its masterplanner, the global architectural firm HOK.

The masterplan for the project focuses on the regeneration of a marina to transform into the ‘jewel in the crown’ of Ajman. The development aims to integrate with the existing urban fabric combining business, retail and residential accommodation, embracing the natural coastline and providing diverse leisure opportunities.
“The undulating curves and distinctive veiled appearance of the 60-storey towers will become a landmark on the Ajman skyline,” says Sherin Aminossehe, senior planner for the development. “The dynamic and fluid towers are inspired by dancing forms of the region and are veiled in a steel-framed diagrid structure that reduces thermal gain. These distinctive elevations change from opaque to translucent as the observer moves around the buildings.”
HOK is working with Saudi-based developer Tanmiyat to provide residential space for up to 18,000 new residents and a multitude of commercial and entertainment facilities covering over 4.5 million sq ft. The new development will serve both the local community and visiting tourists with the total built-up area expected to exceed 12.5 million sq ft.
Work will be completed in two phases within a five year period.
Aminossehe comments: “This project really marks a pinnacle for our work in the UAE. Following the recent success of HOK’s landmark masterplan for Al Ain, we are using our knowledge of the region to create a scheme that personifies the changing vision and the ambitions for Ajman.”
This sentiment is further confirmed by Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, chairman of Ajman Executive Council, who says: “With the launch of Ajman Marina, we are taking a new step in the emirate’s growth, in order to reach the position that it deserves, both locally and regionally. We are moving forward to achieve all the visions that make Ajman a prime module of ideal growth, of which the local people and region will be proud.”
