Qatar has given the go-ahead for two expressway projects – the Al Khor and the E-Ring upgrade – worth a total of $2.83 billion, according to news reports.

Tekfen Construction, a unit of Turkey’s Tekfen Holding, said it has signed a pre-agreement with Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality and Environment for the construction of the Al Khor Expressway project, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency.

The $2.1-billion project aims to build a 34-km-long highway, along with viaducts, road junctions, overpasses and underpasses, and is expected to be completed in 36 months.

The second deal worth $730 million was awarded by Qatar’s Public Works Authority Ashghal to South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering & Construction Company for the extension of the E-Ring expressway in capital Doha.

The project, which is to be completed in 42 months, involves a 4.5-km extension of the expressway connecting the southern part of Doha as well as an additional 4 km of roads with eight to 14 lanes and three multi-level intersections.
