Bahrain has launched a tender to build 1,246 homes within the first phase of the Al Ramli Housing Project being funded by the Gulf Development Programme.

One of the key projects in the Government Action Plan (GAP), the Al Ramli plan will see the construction of 25,000 units by the end of 2018, the BNA said, citing the Minister of Housing Bassim bin Yaqoob Al Hamar.

Twelve contractors from Bahrain and Saudi Arabia participated in the tender. Once the tender is awarded, the site will be prepared and provided with the necessary equipment to pave the way for the construction work to begin. A tender related to the infrastructure of the project will be launched by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, work is set to start on the East Sitra Housing Project which will see the construction of 5,000 residential units. The announcement comes following a directive from HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to start the work before the end of this year.
