Key milestones at Barakah plant

Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec) has achieved a series of significant construction milestones at its Barakah nuclear energy plant in Abu Dhabi, including energisation of the switchyards for Units 3 and 4 and also Unit 2 main power transformer (MTR) besides excitation transformer and unit auxiliary power transformers (UAT).

The connection of Units 3 and 4 to the UAE electricity transmission grid is a prerequisite for future testing and allows for the completion of additional auxiliary buildings at both units.

Meanwhile, the energisation of Unit 2’s MTR, excitation transformer and UAT allows for the initiation of hot functional testing (HFT).

Kingspan expands portfolio

Leading manufacturer Kingspan Insulation has begun manufacturing its thermaroof brand TR22 at its facility in Dubai, thus enhancing its portfolio of construction and mechanical engineering insulation ranges.

Kingspan Thermaroof TR22 is a high compressive strength insulation cover board that can be used in overlaying new and existing flat roofs waterproofed with single-ply and cold liquid-applied waterproofing. It is available in a thickness of 20 mm, and features a fibre-free insulation core, enabling it to achieve a thermal conductivity as low as 0.028 W/m K.

Sarmad Fahkri, the managing director, said production of TR22 in the UAE is essential to the market, as the insulation is ideal for new-build and refurbishment of flat roofs in the country.
