Polypipe’s Polystorm geocellular water management system ... specified as a stormwater management solution at Remraam community.

A leading real estate developer in the region turned to Polypipe when it needed a high-performing stormwater management system for its residential development, Remraam, in Dubai, UAE.

Remraam is a serene community in Dubailand featuring a mix of low and high-rise residential buildings that offer a wide range of quality affordable apartment options.

Given the high water table in the area and concerns about tank flotation, Polypipe provided multiple options to suit the site conditions, working closely with the main contractor and lead consultant to create an ideal solution for the client.

Polystorm, a geocellular water management system for attenuation, detention or infiltration/soakaway, was specified as a stormwater management solution, to collect water at the entry of the Remraam community. The systems are manufactured by Polypipe Middle East, a market-leading expert in managing water in the built environment, with a range of above- and below-ground drainage systems.

Adam Smith, regional sales director at Polypipe Middle East, comments: “Polystorm is chosen more and more with the increasing awareness that our region’s most precious resource requires better management, to create a sustainable urban environment for the long term.”

Another project where Polystorm is currently being installed is the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) Research and Development Centre, at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The system is being used as a soakaway solution at the lab and was tailored to suit difficult ground conditions.

“Chosen for its proven high performance in the Middle East, Polystorm units are lightweight yet robust, affording excellent health and safety and easy installation benefits. In addition, Polystorm appeals because it is approved by Dubai Municipality as a suitable product for soakaway and attenuation,” says Smith.

Other projects that selected Polystorm as a solution are the Etihad Museum and the Layan residential community.

For the Etihad Museum, Effast PVCu pressure pipe and Polystorm geocellular systems were specified and installed to manage large discharge requirements in the event of a storm/flood.

Meanwhile, Polystorm was installed to mitigrate flood events at Layan, a residential development in Dubai.

“When the traditional aggregate soakaways and tanks at properties in the community became blocked during heavy storms in March 2016, the area experienced destructive flooding, hence the reason why Polystorm was later installed,” says a spokesman for Polypipe.

In addition to an extensive product offering, Polypipe offers full technical and design support to ensure solutions perfectly meet and exceed project requirements.

Polystorm is a water management solution manufactured for the region by Polypipe in the UAE, to provide SuDS (sustainable urban drainage systems)-compliant attenuation, detention or infiltration/soakaway. Ideally suited for deeper applications, the system’s 95 per cent void ratio significantly reduces the footprint of the installations.

The modular cells are wrapped in permeable geotextile to provide maximum water capture and subsequent infiltration into groundwater systems.

Using the natural infiltration properties of subsoil, the geocellular system can assist with replenishment of groundwater at a controlled rate and volume that won’t saturate or flood surrounding land, minimising environmental impact.
