The UAE has named a five-member board of directors for the new Union Water and Electricity Company (UWEC).

UWEC will develop the 656-MW power plant and 100-million gallons a day water desalination unit in Fujairah, the report said.

The Abu Dhabi Government is to contribute Dh1.5 billion ($0.408 billion) as the company's paid-up capital, the report said.

The company is responsible for building, operating and managing the desalination and power plant in Qidfa to meet the rising demand for water in Al Ain and the rapidly growing water and power needs of the Northern Emirates.
