Dubai Development and Investment Authority (DDIA), the promoter of the $18 billion Dubailand themed resort, has signed a $272 million deal to set up the Dubai Sunny Mountain Skidome within the mega development with the US-based 32Group.

The venture will spread over a 1.4 million sq ft plot within the ‘Attractions and Experiences World’ of the Dubailand and will bring in Arctic winter experience and winter sports.
32G will own, develop and promote the skidome, which will be open to the public by 2006. Dubai Tourism Development Company (DTDC) will manage Dubailand on behalf of the DDIA.
“This is a win-win situation for all – for 32Group, for Dubai and for all the people who will enjoy themselves at the skidome,” said DDIA director-general Saeed Hussain Al Muntafiq.
Dubai Sunny Mountain Skidome will be the first of its kind in the Middle East and will provide a real and complete winter experience.
The project consists of a dome – a steel structure – that will include a huge revolving ski slope, going through and around an artificial mountain range - created to emphasise the “Arctic Experience” effect. It will also have a deluxe hotel, a shopping mall, restaurants, coffee shops and other retail outlets.
