Making its debut at the Big 5, Al Shomool Trading showcased interior and exterior claddings from Plastica, a leading Dutch manufacturer of cladding products, and premium lock systems from Germany-based DOM – Sicherheitstechnik.

Al Shomool Trading Company is part of the Al Futtaim Group Company.
On display were the Alucopal and Massief ranges from Plastica. Alucopal is an aluminium composite material used for external cladding and is characterised by its high strength and stiffness. It exists from a core of polyethylene which has been joined on both sides with an advanced coated aluminium sheet.
Massief is a durable sheet material, designed for both interior and external cladding and finishes on buildings, suitable for new and renovated housing construction, commercial and industrial buildings. The panels are typically used for applications such as building façades, walls, balcony cladding, partitions, parapets, fascias, external ceilings, dormers, façade filling, roof and gutter edgings, awnings and bill-boards.
“The panels are hard with a dirt-repellant surface. In addition, the colourful and decorative panels are self-supporting, wear-resistant, weather, corrosion and chemical-proof, and above all are easy to work with and easy to attach. They also require low maintenance,” says general manager Said Younes.
DOM is a world leader in lock technology, providing key-systems that offer high levels of security and convenience. From practical security cylinder locks for detached houses to electronic-access-control (EAC) systems for residential complexes and offices, its wide range of products can meet every customer requirement, says a company spokesman.
“On display at the Big 5 was one of our recent developments, the DOM-Butler System targeting the quality-seekers. It is an innovative locking system that opens doors (as well as roller shutters and barriers) while the key (the transponder) could be in the pocket,” adds Younes.

Wallpapers & partitions
As its exclusive distributor, Al Shomool also launched the UK-based Graham & Brown, a well-known wallpaper brand and the innovative ecologically-friendly interior wall/ceiling partition systems from Faay of the Netherlands, at the Big 5 show.
Graham Brown is the UK’s leading wall covering company that has, for more than 60 years, been well known for its quality products for homes and offices. “Today, the company is renowned worldwide for its quality, thanks to its pursuit for innovation and design. The company has managed to stay ahead of trends in home fashion and design by initiating ideas, teaming with top fashion designers and by absorbing influences from all around the world, including the more than 30 countries where its products are available,” adds Younes.
By launching the Graham & Brown product range in the Middle East, the company says it is targeting the higher end of the market like palaces and high-end hotels.
Al Shomool also launched products from Faay, which specialises in the production of environmentally friendly partition walls and ceiling systems with exceptional characteristics of speed, durability and quality.
Suited for applications in new and renovated buildings, it is ideal for houses, offices, shops and restaurants due to its distinctive high degree of soundproofing, high fire resistance and fast processing. Its low weight enables it to be easily installed in far less time than conventional gypsum boards, says Yunus.
“The great advantage of Faay is its cost effectiveness due to its unique feature of being re-useable. The panels can be easily detached and used time after time unlike conventional gypsum boards. That is why a number of worldwide international store-chains choose Faay walls and ceilings,” says Younes.
Stronger than the normal gypsum boards, Faay partitions are strong enough to handle the hanging pressure of nails and screws. It can be provided with wear-resistant top layers on both sides, which are available in various colours and finishes. They are also environment-friendly because they are manufactured from flax, a by-product in the production of linen, paper and linseed oil. The panels are available in six sizes ranging from 2,400 to 3,600 mm with a 54 mm thickness and 600 mm width.
Standard ducts are provided so that electrical wiring and power points can be built in.
