King Salman International Airport Development Company (KSIADC), owned by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund Public Investment Fund, has awarded delivery partner contracts to US firms Bechtel and Parsons for the development of its new state-of-the art airport in Riyadh.

The agreements were signed during US President Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia last month.

Bechtel will manage the delivery of three new terminals: one for commercial carriers, Terminal 6 for low-cost carriers, and a private aviation terminal with hangars. The new terminals will replace all existing facilities at King Khalid International Airport.

Bechtel, which has previously delivered over 300 projects in Saudi Arabia including the Riyadh Metro, said its project team will prioritise achieving LEED Platinum certification by integrating innovative sustainable practices into the design and construction of all three terminals.

Parsons secured two delivery partner (DP) contracts spanning the initial four years of the airport’s multi-year development. The first contract is for airfield assets and includes the runways, taxiways, aircraft parking areas, and air traffic control towers. The second is for landside infrastructure packages including roads, utilities, tunnels, bridges, rail network, and landscaping. As DP, Parsons will provide project management services for all phases of both contracts including early development, design, permits and approvals, procurement, construction, commissioning, handover, and overall coordination.

KSIA, designed by the award-winning architecture firm Foster + Partners, will cover a total area of 57 sq km and will include several terminals, six parallel runways, and a multi-asset real estate area. The new airport is expected to become the world’s largest upon completion in the coming decade.
