The Ashghal project targets the internal road network in West Umm Salal Mohammed area.

QATAR’S Public Works Authority (Ashghal) last month began implementing the roads and infrastructure development project in the West Umm Salal Mohammed area, at a total investment of more than QR1 billion ($271 million) as part of its comprehensive plan to develop infrastructure services across the country.

The project aims to develop the internal road network in the area in addition to building infrastructure facilities and providing advanced services to meet the needs of residents. It is being implemented in two packages, said Ashghal in its statement.

Package One covers roads and infrastructure works in Izghawa and Al Themaid areas with the QR688 million contract clinched by Al Mohannadi for Roads and Trading and Contracting Company.

Package Two covering internal roads network was snapped up by Attikat for a value of QR418.4 million, it stated.

Announcing this, Eng Noor Ashkanani, the Project Engineer at the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal, said the Umm Slal Mohammed West project is a vital project as it serves around 747 citizen land plots.

The authority will be implementing an internal roads network and provide connectivity to public facilities and main roads, such as Al Mazrouah Road.

It will also provide integrated and advanced infrastructure services, including sewage and rainwater drainage networks, it added.

According to Ashghal, the project involves the construction of 36.5 km of internal roads. More than 1,200 street lighting poles, road signs, and road markings will also be installed as part of the project, in addition to 73 km of pedestrian paths and 12 km of bicycle paths, and 5,000 parking spaces, it stated.

Infrastructure development works under the package include the construction of a 27-km sewage network, an 83-km storm water and groundwater drainage network, 38 km of potable water lines, and a 24-km treated wastewater network.
