Almar Water Solutions, a part of Jameel Environmental Services and a global leader in water infrastructure development and services, has announced that it has secured a $940-million contract from Saudi oil giant Aramco to expand its Zuluf Water Treatment Project, thus increasing its treatment capacity to 308,000 cu m/day.

Announcing the contract win, Almar said the award reflects the long-standing relationship between both organisations and underscores Almar’s role as a trusted partner in large-scale industrial water solutions.

The expansion was awarded to the same special purpose vehicle (SPV) through an extension of the existing contractual framework, ensuring full continuity with the original concession structure. This structure comprises a joint venture between Almar and Al Jomaih Energy and Water Company, it stated. 

According to Almar, the second phase of the project will add a new facility with a capacity of 308,000 cu m/day, significantly increasing treated water production for injection.

The expansion builds on the successful first phase of the Zuluf Water Treatment Plant, a strategic industrial facility launched in 2023 with a capacity of 185,000 cu m/day. 

The project shares a similar structure developed under a BOOT (build–own–operate–Transfer) concession lasting until 2050. Together, both phases represent a scalable, long-term infrastructure solution designed to meet the growing demand for high-quality injection water with operational reliability and efficiency, it stated.

Almar said its scope of work includes management of the technical, financial and operational complexities of the project as well as providing secure water solutions for this critical industrial activity.

The project is expected to proceed to financial close, subject to customary conditions, it added.
