Eighty per cent of Muscat governorate will be covered by Muscat Wastewater project by the end of 2014, a report said.
The Muscat Wastewater Project, work on which has already commenced, is divided into three phases and it is planned to serve 90 per cent of the Muscat population by the year 2017, Eng Omar Al Wahaibi, CEO of Oman Wastewater Services Company, was quoted as saying by Oman Times.
“We have planned to connect Al Seeb and Bausher to the system by 2011, Amerat by 2011, Muttrah, Muscat and parts of Ruwi by 2013, Wadi Kabir, Hamriya by 2012 and Quriyat by 2014,” said Wahaibi.
Already 85,000 customers, primarily in Ruwi area, are connected to the network, he said.
A sewage treatment plant is being built in Al Ansab and it will be completed in 2008, he said.
