Oman authorities have awarded a major contract to build the main road, service road and other related works as part of the Duqm township development plan, said a report.

The work includes expansion of the main road into a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction for 7 km, 11-km-long service roads on each side, construction of 12 roundabouts on the service roads and construction of traffic light intersections on the main road, reported the Times of Oman.

The Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (Sezad), which awarded these contracts, said the work will start shortly and the road is expected to be ready in the first quarter of 2016.

 The scope of work includes construction of car-parking facilities, landscaping, modern irrigation systems, lighting works and the diversion of electricity lines to underground cables. The main road will start at the entrance of Duqm wilayat passing in front of the office of Duqm wali and other government institutions, residential areas, and it will end with the road leading to Duqm airport.
