Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) said that its district cooling transmission pipeline has now crossed the 223-km mark in Dubai.

“Empower was able to become a leading example in the district cooling industry and we are moving ahead in our expansion while adopting world-class standards as far as operations and services are concerned to provide consistent and round-the-clock district cooling services to our customers,” said Ahmad Bin Shafar, chief executive officer of Empower. “We are very aware that advanced infrastructure will contribute in offering world-class chilling services, thus we at Empower work on continuously improving our network to cater to the daily needs of our customers.”

The company’s current network covers key projects across Dubai such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai Healthcare City, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Palm Jumeirah, Discovery Gardens, International Media Production Zone, Academic City, Mirdif, and Dubai Design District, among others.

Bin Shafar added that district cooling is a better option to conventional chilling services. “For example, costs of maintenance and disruption of services aren’t passed on to end-users. This service is also very feasible to investors in the medium to long run and it is environment-friendly,” he said.

He said the company has continuously expanded its transmission network, which has now reached a length of 223 km.

Meanwhile, Empower has awarded a contract to expand its production capacity in the Tecom-C area of Dubai, which will add up 30,000 refrigeration tonnes (RT) to its production. It currently operates more than 1.1 million RT.

The work includes providing consultancy services for the full design, engineering, contract administration, construction supervision and project management of the company’s district cooling plant.

“The Tecom-C project is an important milestone for Empower among its Dubai projects. It reflects the company’s strategy to expand services geographically and add RT capacity,” remarked Bin Shafar.

The contract is part of Empower’s services to mega real estate developments in Dubai via world-class infrastructure and networking systems, he noted.
