Leading contractors in the UAE are using formwork systems from Germany’s Paschal-Werk G Maier to facilitate work and speed up the execution of a number of key projects in Abu Dhabi.

These modular panel systems are being used on a diverse range of projects including mixed-use developments, residential compounds, apartment buildings, and substations.

The company has supplied its formwork through its office in Abu Dhabi Paschal Emirates Company, to major contractors such as Al Hassan Engineering, Seidco General Contracting, Trojan General Contracting, Fibrex and Al Shafar General Contracting.

According to a spokesman for Paschal Emirates Company, Al Hassan Engineering is using Paschal modular formwork to construct double-sided retaining walls for the Shanayel 220 kV GIS (gas-insulated switchgear) transformer station in Abu Dhabi’s Rumaitha area as well as for a 400 kV substation in Mirfa. The contractor has recently completed work at Al Ghurair Iron and Steel’s Phase Two development of its continuous galvanising line (CGL) complex in ICAD, where the systems were again used in the construction of double-sided retaining walls.

Paschal’s formwork has been used by Seidco General Contracting for the Al Wafra project, a commercial and residential building development at Al Reem Island. For this project, Seidco purchased the formwork to construct the columns of this striking building, which has been built using self-compacting concrete and features four basement levels, a ground level, six storeys and lower and upper roof levels. The contractor is now using the formwork for the construction of columns at the ongoing United Square Development in Abu Dhabi. The prestigious mixed-use development, located on a prime plot of land in the Al Khalidiya district, comprises three integrated towers that have a unique curvilinear shape designed by Dewan Architects to epitomise the graceful fluidity of water organically rising up from the urban streets in the direction of the sea.

Meanwhile, Trojan General Contracting is using the flexibility afforded by these German formwork systems in the construction of a variety of applications. For example, they are being used to construct shear walls at the Hydra Commercial and Residential Tower Project on Reem Island; the footings on the Hydra Village project in Shahama; and retaining walls at Al Noor Tower on Reem Island. Trojan General Contracting will also use the formwork for the construction of pile caps and tie beams at a mosque, school and retail building which form part of the Yas Development on Yas Island.

Among other contractors that are using these modular systems is Fibrex, which is constructing the curved walls for the expansion of Khalifa University’s campus in Al Zafranah and for the ramp walls at the Najmat Residential development on Reem Island.

Yet another contractor Al Shafar General Contracting is utilising Paschal formwork for the construction of columns at the Marina Bloom Development in Al Bateen. The mixed-use development owned by Bloom Development is located along the seashore and features a 200-room, seven-star hotel, as well as a hotel with 57 serviced apartments, and two residential towers. It also boasts a retail esplanade spanning the seashore promenade.
