SAUDI Arabia is to construct a SR300-million ($80 million) flight academy to train commercial and private pilots.

Located at the Thumamah Airport, 28 km northeast of King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh, the Saudi Aviation Flight Academy (SAFA) is being developed in cooperation with Saudi Aviation Club and the Saudi Binladin Group. The academy will aim to promote growth of aviation in the kingdom by providing a world-class centre for pilot training. SAFA will start limited operations in December 2010 while the permanent facility is being constructed. The academy, which will occupy 50,000 sq m of built-up area, will include all training facilities, besides residential and recreational facilities.
